Build an Online Business by Copying the Success of Others

By: Larry Didrikson

Maybe you've recently considered starting an online business. Perhaps you've even tried your hand at doing business on the internet, but you've experience limited success. With the right plan, and the right set of tools, you can be on the road to success faster than you might think. Getting started on the right path would be a little easier if you could "steal" an existing online business model that works.

Copying Success is an Age-Old Philosophy

Writers do it all the time. So do artists. The same is true for just about anything requiring a little creativity. So, why then, would you think that creating an online business would be any different? An author might draw her inspiration from reading the creative works of masters of the craft. An artist may pull his ideas directly from the landscape, but he might need to make a visit to the local art gallery. Obviously, plagiarism and tracing are unethical and illegal. But borrowing elements from the successful work of others is not only acceptable, it is actually expected.

If you're really serious about starting and operating a successful online business, you will probably want to find a mentor. You'll want to find someone that can guide you toward your goals while helping to avoid obstacles along the way. One way to begin is to examine other successful online businesses to try to understand the reasons for their success. You'll want to avoid infringing on another's copyright, but implementing a successful business model is completely legal. You can often even pull ideas from the site design itself without running into trouble.

The Proof is in the Results

If an author was attempting to write the next great mystery novel, she wouldn't be reading Dr. Seuss. Neither should you attempt to adopt the models of businesses that aren't headed in the direction you want to go. Although it's much easier to achieve your goals with a little head-start, you want to bring your own personality to the table as well. You have to be sure the system you choose to emulate meshes with your overall objectives.

Boldly Go Forth

Success comes to those who plan and implement. Planning is essential, but taking action is the critical step in the process. Without action, a plan remains an idea in someone's head. It's not until action is taken that an idea brings itself into the realm of the physical and takes on form and substance. When you begin building your online business, you're going to meet many people along the way that know more than you. You'll talk with people that can tell you everything you should do from A to Z. And you'll soon learn that there is one reason that more people don't run successful online businesses. Far too many fail to take that all-important step from planning to take action.
